Creative contacts speak out
A significant element of the Creative Partnership is to use our networking moxie and contacts to develop low-cost (ok, free!) programs that provide direct access to experts in innovative technologies. The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok is a great partner for this, arranging speaker programs for these VIPs (Very Intelligent Persons) every month. Here are the latest:
- Nicholas Simon from IndoChina Productions is back in town and visited Bangkok University’s Communication Arts students February 2 to talk about filmmaking and production management.
- Thai-American Dr. Montira Pongsiri is a Science Advisor to the US Mission to ASEAN. On regional travel she often fits in an outreach event with local environment and health academics. On February 1, she was able to visit the Faculty of Public Health at Hua Chiew University, sharing thoughts on “Healthy Environments, Healthy People” in Southeast Asia with 50 students, and on March 12, she also met with a small group of Thammasat University’s Public Health Faculty.
- Dr. Virginia Smith goes with the flow. A Geosciences expert, she manages research students at the University of Texas at Austin while living here in Bangkok. On March 28, marking World Water Day the 22nd, she talked with Kasetsart University environmental faculty graduate students and lecturers about the challenges facing the world’s water.
- You don’t have to wait for experts to come to Thailand to connect. The White House kicked off a series of engineering and ICT web chats with Google Hangout called “We the Geeks” May 13. Check out the first one here!
