Experts define green design

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with Parsons the New School, organized green design programs September 24 and 26. The first, featuring Fashion School Dean Simon Collins (yeah, THAT fashion school!), was a discussion about sustainable approaches and clothing concepts, as developed with the many who clamor for Parsons partnerships.

The second meeting focused on Green Building & Design, featuring Parsons Dean William Morrish, who discussed the evolution of cities and urban environments, comparing New Orleans, Bangkok, and human living patterns everywhere in between.

Local Architect and designer Dr. Singh Intrachooto followed Dean Morrish with a discussion of similarly broad issues, calling for elimination of waste from the very beginning of processes. He asked the audience of university and professional designers and architects to strongly consider whether new construction is what’s needed.

USAID|Asia China Environment Program Coordinator Maria Chen contributed to the same seminar, discussing trends in China, especially lessons learned from the implementation and effectiveness of green building standards in actual practice.

The Thai Ministry of Energy, private-sector contributions from Park Venture Ecoplex and Kasikorn Bank, and an alternative look at low-income implementation of low-waste buildings from Silpakorn University rounded out the wide-ranging seminar. Presentations below the cut!
