We can call it a vacation, because a trip to New York City should always involve some economy-boosting tourism. But students from Thailand’s Chulalongkorn and Mahidol Universities will be working hard for that time off! Microsoft’s Imagine Cup 2011 kicks off the World Finals round this weekend, its ninth year of challenging students to solve real-world problems with technology, AND the combined force of their grey matter.
Thailand has a bright record in the (worth repeating) worldwide competition, having won twice before.
In the national round we told you about back in March, Team NewKrean took the top prize for its Terra Project in the Software Design category, enabling mobile phone users to alert emergency services and their family via text messaging and social networks, with one click, in the case of an emergency or natural disaster.
Then there’s Team JubJub, who re-uses and recycles the environmental-consciousness message using the Windows/Xbox platform with its phone-ready Game Design entry, an addictive educational sorting game humbly titled Junk Master, the Journey to Junk Lord:
You can vote for team JubJub in the People’s Choice Awards for 6 more days. The finals run July 8-13 at the Marriott Marquis on 7th Avenue above Times Square. Be sure to check out both teams’ Facebook links above for status updates and photos as it happens. We’ll be Tweeting updates on these talented Thai technologists throughout!
